Elizabeth Martinez Acuna

Licensed Professional Counselor | 20+ Years of Healing

Elizabeth is a licensed mental health counselor providing virtual therapy for adults across Texas and Ohio. For more than 20 years, she has helped individuals overcome anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship struggles, grief, and major life transitions through compassionate, research-based care.

Her Journey

Elizabeth began her career serving with social services and the family and juvenile court system, experiences that ignited her commitment to helping people heal and led her to formal studies in social work, sociology, and psychology.

She later gained extensive experience facilitating prison-based programs and supporting children and families impacted by incarceration. For more than two decades, she has empowered people to recognize their strengths, rebuild resilience, and create meaningful change.

Her Philosophy

As a telehealth therapist, Elizabeth provides counseling that is warm, collaborative, and deeply person-centered. She believes healing happens when people feel safe to be seen and heard without judgment. Her approach focuses on understanding the whole person — mind, body, spirit, and behavior — and how each part influences overall wellbeing.

No matter the method, she believes the most powerful part of therapy is the authentic connection built with each client.

“You don’t have to walk through your pain alone. Healing begins the moment you feel safe enough to be honest — and I’m here to build that space with you.”

— Elizabeth Martinez Acuna

Therapeutic Approaches

Click each approach to learn more about how we might use it in your treatment.

🧠 CBT

+

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps identify and change negative thought patterns and behaviors. We examine how your thoughts affect your feelings and actions, then develop practical strategies to shift unhelpful patterns.

Best for: Anxiety, depression, phobias, OCD, and changing specific behavioral patterns

🔄 DBT

+

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) combines CBT with mindfulness and acceptance strategies. It focuses on building skills in four areas: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness.

Best for: Emotional dysregulation, self-harm, borderline personality traits, intense mood swings

EMDR

+

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a specialized trauma treatment that uses bilateral stimulation (eye movements, taps, or sounds) to help process traumatic memories and reduce their emotional intensity.

Best for: PTSD, single-incident trauma, complex trauma, phobias, and disturbing memories

🛡️ Trauma-Focused

+

Trauma-Informed Care recognizes the widespread impact of trauma and integrates this understanding into all aspects of treatment. It emphasizes physical and emotional safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, and empowerment.

Best for: All trauma-related concerns, including childhood abuse, neglect, and complex PTSD

💝 Humanistic

+

Humanistic/Person-Centered Therapy emphasizes your inherent capacity for growth and self-actualization. I provide unconditional positive regard, empathy, and authenticity to create a safe space for exploration.

Best for: Self-esteem issues, identity exploration, personal growth, and finding meaning

🎯 Solution-Focused

+

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) focuses on building solutions rather than analyzing problems. We identify your strengths, resources, and past successes to create practical steps toward your goals.

Best for: Specific problems needing resolution, goal-setting, brief therapy needs, life transitions

💬 Motivational Interviewing

+

Motivational Interviewing is a collaborative conversation style that strengthens your own motivation and commitment to change. We explore ambivalence and elicit your own reasons for making positive changes.

Best for: Ambivalence about change, addiction recovery, health behavior changes, increasing engagement

💕 Emotion-Focused

+

Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) helps identify, experience, accept, and transform emotions. We work with your emotional experience as a key to healing, particularly in relationships and attachment issues.

Best for: Couples therapy, attachment issues, emotional avoidance, relationship distress
